Cyprus eSIM Guide 2026: Beaches, Mountains and the Divided-Island Catch

Ayia Napa, Paphos and the Troodos mountains — how much data you need in Cyprus, plus the north/south coverage detail most visitors miss.

Cyprus is an easy, sunny destination with one genuine connectivity quirk: the island is politically divided, and that affects which networks your plan can use.

Short answer: 3–5 GB covers a week in Cyprus. The Republic of Cyprus (south) is in the EU roaming zone and well covered. Northern Cyprus uses different networks and is usually not included on EU or Cyprus plans — crossing north can put you on expensive roaming.

The north/south detail

The Republic of Cyprus (Larnaca, Paphos, Limassol, Ayia Napa, Nicosia's south) is an EU member. Northern Cyprus operates separately with its own operators. If you plan to cross to Kyrenia or Famagusta:

  • Your Cyprus/EU plan may stop working or switch to costly roaming.
  • Turn data roaming off before crossing if you are unsure, and rely on Wi-Fi.
  • Check your plan's coverage list explicitly.

Coverage in the south

A travel eSIM rides Cyta, Epic or PrimeTel. Coverage is strong across the southern coast, Nicosia and the Troodos foothills. High Troodos passes and remote Akamas trails thin out.

How much data do you need?

  • Beach week: 3 GB (hotel Wi-Fi covers a lot).
  • Touring the island: 5 GB.
  • Working remotely: 10 GB+.

Apps to download before you land

  • Google Maps offline for Troodos and the Akamas peninsula.
  • Cyprus By Bus for intercity coaches.
  • Bolt for rides in the main towns.

Cyprus eSIM FAQ

Does my plan work in Northern Cyprus? Usually not. Treat the north as a separate coverage area and check before crossing.

Is Cyprus in EU roaming? The Republic (south) is. The north is not.

How much data for a beach week? 3 GB is plenty with hotel Wi-Fi.

Is there coverage in the mountains? In villages yes, on high passes and remote trails often not.

The bottom line

Buy for the south, and plan deliberately if you cross north. Install a Cyprus eSIM before you fly.

Island quirk: Cyprus is divided, and so is its mobile coverage. Check your plan before heading north.
