Pakistan's northern mountains are among the most spectacular places any traveller can go, and the Karakoram Highway that reaches them is a long way from a mobile mast for much of its length.
The networks
Jazz, Zong, Telenor Pakistan and Ufone cover the country. Jazz and Zong have the widest reach; Zong is often the best performer in the north.
Coverage picture:
- Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi — good, with 4G throughout and 5G rolling out
- Motorways — well covered
- Karakoram Highway — improving but with genuine gaps, especially between Chilas and Gilgit
- Hunza valley (Karimabad, Gulmit, Passu) — decent in the villages, patchy up the side valleys
- Skardu and Deosai — town coverage; the plains and the trek approaches have none

Registration and the foreigner question
