Armenia eSIM Guide 2026: Yerevan, Monasteries and Mountain Roads

Yerevan cafés, cliffside monasteries and Lake Sevan — how much data you need in Armenia, where coverage thins, and how to land connected.

Armenia is compact, ancient and increasingly popular with remote workers. It is also entirely outside European roaming bundles, so data is something to sort before you land.

Short answer: 5 GB covers a week in Armenia. Coverage is good in Yerevan and along the main highways; mountain monastery roads and the Syunik region thin out. Armenia is not in the EU roaming zone.

Coverage in Armenia

A travel eSIM rides Team (Vivacell), Ucom or Team Telecom. Strong 4G in Yerevan, Gyumri and Dilijan, decent along the main north–south highway. Tatev, Noravank and the high passes toward Iran are patchy.

How much data do you need?

  • Yerevan city break: 3 GB.
  • A week touring monasteries: 5 GB.
  • Remote work: 15 GB+ — Yerevan is a growing nomad base.

Apps to download before you land

  • Yandex Go and GG — the main ride apps in Yerevan.
  • Google Maps offline for Tatev, Sevan and the southern routes.
  • Google Translate with the Armenian pack.

Armenia eSIM FAQ

Is there coverage at Tatev and Noravank? Around the sites usually yes, but the approach roads drop out.

How much data for a week? 5 GB for typical travel.

Is it good for remote work? Yes — Yerevan has cheap living, decent internet and long visa-free stays for many nationalities.

The bottom line

Armenia rewards the curious and punishes the unprepared roamer. Install an Armenia eSIM before you fly.

Caucasus tip: Armenia and Georgia are both outside EU roaming. Buy separately or look at a regional plan covering both.
