Serbia eSIM Guide 2026: Belgrade, Novi Sad and Non-EU Roaming

Belgrade nightlife, Novi Sad and mountain monasteries — how much data you need in Serbia, and the roaming detail that catches EU travelers out.

Serbia is affordable, welcoming and increasingly popular — and it is the point where many European travelers accidentally leave their roaming bundle behind.

Short answer: 3–5 GB covers a week in Serbia. Coverage is good in cities and along main roads. Serbia is not in the EU, so "roam like home" does not apply — a common and expensive surprise for EU visitors driving through the Balkans.

The non-EU roaming trap

Serbia sits between EU members, so road trips through the Balkans cross in and out of the roaming zone repeatedly. Your EU bundle stops at the border, and per-megabyte rates take over. A prepaid eSIM, or a regional plan that explicitly lists Serbia, avoids it.

Serbia does participate in a Western Balkans "roam like at home" arrangement with neighbouring non-EU countries — useful if you are touring the region.

Coverage in Serbia

A travel eSIM rides Telekom Srbija (mts), A1 or Yettel. Strong 4G in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš, good coverage along the main corridors, thinner in the western mountains and remote monastery routes.

How much data do you need?

  • Belgrade city break: 1–3 GB.
  • A week around the country: 3–5 GB.
  • Road trip / hotspot: 8 GB+.

Apps to download before you land

  • CarGo — the local ride app (Uber is not present).
  • BusSerbia / Srbijavoz for coaches and trains.
  • Google Maps offline for Tara and Zlatibor.

Serbia eSIM FAQ

Is Serbia in EU roaming? No. This is the single most important thing to know before driving in.

Does my Europe regional eSIM cover it? Only if Serbia is on the country list — many exclude the non-EU Balkans. Check.

How much data for a week? 3–5 GB.

Is there Uber in Belgrade? No — use CarGo.

The bottom line

Serbia is great value, but only if you sort data before the border. Install a Serbia eSIM before you fly.

Balkan road-trip rule: EU roaming stops at Serbia's border. Check your plan's country list before you drive.
