Most flights into Dubai land at Dubai International (DXB), close to the city; some airlines use Al Maktoum International (DWC) further south. Either way, the first thing you need after touchdown is data: to book a Careem or Uber, check the Metro route and message your hotel. With an airova eSIM there is no SIM counter and no queue at arrivals — the eSIM is already on your phone.
The airova UAE eSIM connects to du, one of the country’s two national operators, and uses 5G where it is available and 4G elsewhere. Coverage is solid across Downtown, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah and Old Dubai around Deira and Al Fahidi, as well as in the malls and along the main highways. Signal can weaken in deep basements, some car parks and lift shafts.
Text messaging, maps and browsing work as usual. Some VoIP calling features in apps may be restricted locally; check before you rely on them. For important calls, keep your home SIM active for regular voice and SMS.
The Dubai Metro links the airport with Deira, Downtown and the Marina; pay with a Nol card from the station machines. Careem and Uber show the fare estimate before you ride, and maps give live routes for the Metro, tram and buses. Old Dubai is best on foot, with an abra across the Creek between the souks.
Desert safaris head out past the city into the dunes, where coverage thins and can drop entirely — share your tour details with someone before you go and keep the operator’s number saved. Abu Dhabi is an easy day trip along the main highway, and the eSIM works there too: the whole UAE is covered by the same plan.
A city break of four to five days with maps, taxis, messaging and photo sharing usually fits in 3–5 GB. A week or more, lots of Reels and stories or remote work call for 10 GB or more. Run out mid-trip? Top up the same eSIM from your account — no new QR code. See how much data you need and the UAE eSIM page for the rest of the country.
