Poland stretches from the Baltic Sea to the Sudetes and the Carpathians, and its three busiest airports serve Warsaw, Kraków and Gdańsk. Install a travel eSIM at home and switch it on when you land. AirOva sells Poland plans from $1.49: fixed GB, unlimited data and a data + calls option, on Play, Orange and Plus.
GB plans suit most city breaks and train journeys, since maps, tickets and messaging take little data. Each plan card shows whether it is listed as 4G or 5G; on a 5G plan, expect 4G, with 5G where available. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit, priced by the number of days, and the data + calls option adds call minutes. GB and unlimited plans are data only, and no plan includes a local phone number.
Poland has four mobile networks: Orange, the former Idea; T-Mobile, the former Era; Play, run by P4; and Plus, run by Polkomtel. Our plans run on Play, Orange and Plus; T-Mobile is not on our plans. In October 2023 the regulator UKE auctioned the 3.4–3.8 GHz band for 5G in four 100 MHz blocks, one for each network.
Poland has been in the EU since 2004, so an EU or EEA SIM uses its domestic allowance here under Roam Like at Home, which also covers neighbouring Ukraine; operators may still apply a fair-use limit to roaming data on cheap or unlimited tariffs. Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad region are outside the zone, and UK travel advice says access to the land borders with Ukraine and Belarus is restricted.
Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), the busiest in Poland, is in the city's Włochy district, about 10 km from the centre. Kraków Airport (KRK) lies in Balice, 11 km west of the city, with trains to Kraków Główny station in about 17 minutes, and Gdańsk Airport (GDN) 12 km northwest of Gdańsk. After landing, switch on the eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the plan is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge.
Tip: hiking in the Tatras, along Poland's southern border? Download offline maps first and save the numbers of the Tatra mountain rescue service, TOPR: 985 and +48 601 100 300. Keep your home SIM on for calls; more in our Poland eSIM guide.
